A very happy, belated Mommy's Day to everyone! I hope everyone's was as wonderful as mine. Guess the first one is always the best, right?

Jaime made me a gift at "school." It came wrapped in tissue paper and we put it aside until the big day. She never once told me to open it but she did make note of it every time we went by.

We spent Saturday morning shopping, of course. Jaime got her first-ever pair of sandals. She's not sure if she likes them or not. They let the pebbles in when we're playing at the park. I tried explaining that to her but I guess she had to learn it for herself. Actually, she got two pair of sandals. One Care Bear pair that are very colorful, the other some Wally World trademark, I think, Blue Jean Bear but the sandals are nice and they're leather. Kind of dress up sandals. Of course she liked the Care Bear ones the best :)

Then we went to MacFrugal's where we found a pair of those beach shoes or shower shoes or whatever they're called. The mesh ones with the rubber soles. She liked those a lot and tried them on when we got home.

Jaime was stomping around in those shoes and I asked her if she could dance in them. She nodded and did a little dance for me. Then I asked if she could jump in them. She nodded. Now, in my defense, I didn't know Jaime didn't realize jumping meant landing on your feet again. So, she jumped, kicked her legs up in the air and came down flat on the floor. Then she did it again. We've stopped jumping in our house until we have it figured out. We're currently practicing jumping on the bed with Mommy holding Jaime's hands :)

We went to the park in the afternoon, even though the weather wasn't that beautiful. We both needed some fun time together. I think this picture pretty much told me her opinion of a weekend without some park activity...

So, off to the park we went for about an hour or so. Jaime spent less time on the swing than normal (and for that Mommy's back thanks her) and more time on the slides and other activities. No matter what, though she loves the park. If you look closely, you can see the Care Bear sandals.

I think these photos were actually taken last weekend but I liked them a lot. They show how far Jaime's come in such a short time. Six months ago, she couldn't even run across this playscape without falling. Now she goes like the wind.

As I said, she's starting to learn how the camera works now and that I'm taking picture of her so she'll mug every now and then

Some nice ladies came along and I asked if they'd take our picture together, just in case we didn't get one on Sunday I figured this one could be our first Mother's Day photo. I like this one better, anyway. So, without futher adieu, here are Jaime and Mommy in their matching Grateful Dead dresses. I'm the happy looking one on the left :)

Saturday evening, rather than eat out since we were going to eat out for Mother's Day, we just went to Sonic and got a burger. If you're not familiar with Sonic, it's kind of an old style drive-in. The carhops wear roller skates (not roller blades, thank you!) and even if you go through the drive up, the carhop delivers your goods. They have excellent burgers and we're working our way through the smoothie flavors :)

Sunday morning dawned with....rain. Again.

We started the day with breakfast and changing the sheets on the bed (a Sunday ritual), then the time finally came to open the gift .

I doubt I'll ever forget the look on Jaime's face as I was opening it. Sheer anticipation. I could see how much she wanted me to like it. Unless you've looked into those big, brown eyes, I'm not going to be able to explain it.

I started to slowly unwrap the tissue paper but it wasn't fast enough for Jaime. She just tore into it then handed the gift to me. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. It's kind of a weird size so I'll have to take it to a frame shop to have it framed but you can bet that's exactly what I'm going to do. See if you don't agree with me. Is this gorgeous or what?

Sorry it's a bit fuzzy. The poem goes like this:

"Walk a little slower, Mommy",
Said a little child so small.
"I'm following in your footsteps,
And I don't want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they're hard to see;
So walk a little slower, Mommy,
For you are leading me.

Someday when I'm all grown up,
You're what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child
Who'll want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true;
So, walk a little slower, Mommy,
For I must follow you."

You can bet I cried and the picture is now on the mantle. Jaime points to it and says, "Toes!" ;)

Jaime was content to play with her new Peek-a-Block Choo-Choo. Okay, it says it's for ages 6 months and up but I think it's cool so what does that say?

We vacuumed a bit

James called to wish me a happy Mother's Day and while he was talking Jaime dozed off on the couch. I let her sleep for about an hour then woke her up so we could head back to MacFrugal's for some pinwheels for James' garden and to return the picture frame I thought would fit Jaime's gift. We got there too early so we spent about an hour at the park, again. Grabbed the stuff at MacFrugal's then home for lunch and a nap. Jaime slept her full 2 hours! Whoa!

By the time she woke up it couldn't decide if it wanted to rain or shine. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to check out the swimming pool.

Jaime loved it. The water was frigid so we didn't stay long (she, of course, wanted to stay longer) but she loved it anyway. She calls it the "bath" and is perfectly willing to stay in until her whole body, instead of just her lips, turn blue :) Okay, I didn't let her stay in that long but she sure was shivering!

Then a short trip to the park where the weather decided on rain instead of sunshine. Besides, it was time to eat dinner anyway. The Outback was full with people standing outside so we went to IHOP. The waitress was kind enough to take our picture together. This time I'm the happy one on the right :)

Jaime had the grilled cheese and felt it was very important to pick Mommy's dinner for her. She chose the Sourdough Bacon Burger Melt which was, indeed, delicious. Then home for a bath, feed the outside kitties, lots of hugs and kisses, an extra story and "night-night."

I have to say, this was the best Mother's Day....ever.
