I doubt that I'll get to post every day. Being the mommy of a 2-year-old keeps me busy right now. We're doing fine but our sleep schedule is a bit of a mess. Poor Jaime thinks she's on the flip side of the world and I think I'm in Texas (which, of course, I am but explain that to a 2-year-old!)

Before I get too far into this, I want to say a word or two (or a hundred) about my cat Bert. When I came home from Kazakhstan, Bert was in a pretty bad way. He was still eating and trying his best to keep going but he was in a lot of pain so Monday I took him to the vet and had him put to sleep.

Yes, I know he was "just a cat" and after seeing all the poverty and pain in Kazakhstan, I know that there are more important things in the world. But Bert wasn't just my cat, he was my friend. He was the kind of cat everyone wants when they get a cat. He was loyal, smart, a cuddler, loved to be held and slept next to me on the pillow every night.

Having him put to sleep was very hard but it had to be done. I didn't want him to suffer any more. I know he waited for me to come home so he could say good-bye. Scoff if you want but I loved him and he will be missed.

Farewell, my friend. I hope you're in a better place. I'll see you again someday.
